Hector Gomez receives DOD grant

Hector Gomez has been awarded a $600,000 grant as part of the Defense Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (DEPSCoR) competition.

The competition was established by the Department of Defense (DOD) to encourage the pursuit of science and engineering research in areas relevant to DOD initiatives supporting the National Defense Strategy.

Hector Gomez is an associate professor of mechanical engineering, focusing on modeling and computer-based simulation, especially of interface problems. His project is titled "Role of non-condensable gas on cavitation inception." The project aims at answering a long-standing question in cavitation dynamics: How do the small amounts of air, invariably present in water, alter cavitation mass transfer? The project will leverage a unique combination of theory, simulations and experiments.
