The Evolution of Captone Programs Toward Multi-National Real-World Development Projects, Pre and Post COVID

Session We1: Nov 10, 12:05 PM

Abstract:

Over the past 10-15 years capstone programs have been evolving in many aspects covering everything from the development processes to the types of projects. This contribution discusses one of the newer developments; the move to industry-led multi-national projects, where student teams work in their university but take directions from a technical lead of an international company. This approach accurately replicates the way many graduates will work after entering the global workforce, and this paper presents one possible model for establishing and running these projects. The program was successfully established in the past decade as virtual projects, due to logistic requirements. This approach has proven extremely valuable during the COVID pandemic and will continue to be in the future as projects are executed through virtual means, without the need for any travel or personal contact.
