Dynamics Area Examination
The area examination in dynamics will be a two-hour closed book test. Its purpose is to provide assurance that all Ph.D. candidates who desire an expertise in this area display sufficient knowledge of the fundamental principles of kinematics and kinetics of lumped mass model of systems and vibration of discrete and continuous systems.
The examination is divided into two equal sections:
- Particle and Rigid Body Dynamics
- Vibrations
Thus, as an absolute minimum the examinee should have the equivalent of ME 274 and ME 563 as a background.
The test will consist of six problems: three in dynamics and three in vibrations. The student must work two problems in each category.
