"We want women to know that they are valued, appreciated, welcomed, and supported here in ME," said Julia King, Managing Director of Staff for Purdue Mechanical Engineering, and one of the organizers of the Women in ME Symposium.

"We encourage both MEs and First-Year Engineers to attend these events and learn from these amazing women. In fact, the whole second half of the event is focused specifically on our FYEs and helping them understand all that Mechanical Engineering has to offer!"

The symposium is free, and will feature a variety of events, allowing students to choose what will best benefit them. These include:

  • A "fireside chat" for ME seniors, featuring Angela Barbee (MSME '98), the first African American woman to obtain a master’s degree from Herrick Labs
  • Workshop on overcoming Impostor Syndrome, led by ME alum Kelli Bromm
