PEARL Labs

  • Rapid Prototyping Lab (ME 1191)
    • Students must pay for the resin, though at a greatly reduced cost
    • All projects must be approved by Mike Sherwood
  • MTS Tensile and Compression testing

  • Welding

    • Students are not permitted to use ME welding equipment
    • Mike Sherwood is available for MIG and TIG welding

ME Project Machine Shop

  • Metal working
    • Capable for mild steel, aluminum, brass, copper, etc.
    • Machines include lathes, mills, saws, etc.
    • CNC machines require authorization from Adam or John.
  • Wood working
  • Cold casting (resins)
    • Talk with Adam or John to verify which chemicals are being used.
    • Aluminum casting may be available by special arrangement in Technology
  • Sand blasting - talk to Adam and John to use.
  • Composites - fiberglass, kevlar, etc.
    • Small composite layups are permitted - limited to 2' x 2'.
    • Large composites not available in ME. Aero Eng. may be available by special arrangement. Most composites may be machined, except carbon fiber due to MSDS issues. Contact Adam and John before cutting any composites.
