Why should you choose Mechanical Engineering?

Mechanical Engineering is the broadest of all engineering majors, and our students are capable of just about anything. Purdue ME graduates have become astronauts, athletes, entrepreneurs, and everything in between.

Classes include a wide range of physics, electronics, 3D printing, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, controls, and more. You also have the opportunity to learn outside the classroom: join a motorsports team, design rockets, or lend their skills to service organizations to make a difference in your community. Many students conduct graduate-level research as undergrads, working with our world-class faculty. There are even opportunities to study abroad and immerse yourself in global engineering, giving you a clear advantage when it's time to go job hunting.

No matter what your passions are, and where your skills are focused, there’s a place for you in Mechanical Engineering.

"I hold Purdue in such high regard. There's no question that engineering got me into the job I'm in now. They trained me in more ways than I could have realized at the time: the problem-solving skills, the analytics. All of those things were a huge asset to get me where I am today."
-Chris Gabehart (BSME '05), NASCAR Crew Chief
