Graduate students win awards

With all public gatherings cancelled, we want to recognize the ME graduate students and faculty who received recognition from the College of Engineering.

 

OUTSTANDING SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
Terrell Glenn

Terrell Glenn is a Ph.D. student in Karthik Ramani's C Design Lab, where he works with robotics and augmented reality.  He has conducted multiple workshops for K-12 students in Indiana, hoping to increase the number of African Americans involved in science and technology.

OUTSTANDING RESEARCH AWARDS

Yutong (Tony) Xue

Tony Xue received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in 2019.  He studied acoustics under Stuart Bolton, specifically focusing on the acoustical damping characteristics of fibrous materials. He is now a Senior Engineer at Seagate Technology.

Hasti Veeraraghava Raju

Working in the research group of Jay Gore, Hasti mentored numerous students in combustion science, and was recognized in 2019 with the Purdue Graduate School Mentoring Award. He has also served as a teaching assistant for several undergraduate and graduate courses, and has published 19 conference papers.  Hasti is now a Research Assistant Professor at Purdue ME.

MAGOON AWARDS FOR OUTSTANDING TEACHING ASSISTANTS AND INSTRUCTORS

Subramanian Chidambaram, Dan Feng, David Neal Halbrooks, Ruixin Li, Tamzidul Mina, Joshua Daniel Pribe, Murtuza Nuruddin Shergadwala, and Akhil Vijay

The Purdue University College of Engineering Magoon Awards are given to outstanding teaching assistants and instructors in memory of Estus H. and Vashti L. Magoon, who have influenced the lives of many engineering educators through this award. The award is made possible through the generous Estus H. and Vashti L. Magoon endowment, and the recipients each receive $2,000.

OUTSTANDING FACULTY MENTOR

Amy Marconnet

Every year, graduate students select an Outstanding Faculty Mentor, to recognize their exceptional mentoring of engineering graduate students.  This year, ME students have chosen Amy Marconnet, Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering.  Amy's lab, the Marconnet Thermal & Energy Conversion Lab (MTEC), focuses on thermal conductivity, especially in nanostructures such as carbon nanotubes.
