The Composites Manufacturing Simulation Center of the College of Engineering at Purdue University seeks candidates for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level with a focus in large scale additive manufacturing (LSAM) of composite materials.

Testing new designs for jet engine turbines is no easy task. Wind tunnels are large, complicated, and expensive; and building functional prototypes takes a long time. But Purdue University researchers now have an alternative: a water table which simulates supersonic flow, enabling them to quickly test and iterate their designs.

Modeling this complex flow requires huge supercomputers, which rely on very specific parameters. Purdue University researchers have pioneered a more efficient mathematical method to model this phase change, reducing the computing power needed and expanding its application to a broader size scales.
