A team of Purdue mechanical engineering students have developed a novel system to deal with neuropathy, which causes patients to lose feeling in their feet, making them unable to walk. By attaching sensors to the shoe, connected wirelessly to a band around the leg, users can re-train their brain to "feel" the ground beneath them. The team won the Malott Innovation Awards, given to the best senior design project of the spring 2023 semester.

Alumni William and Barbara Rakosnik have committed more than $10 million to Purdue University in support of the School of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Psychological Sciences and University Residences.
