Purdue alumna receives award from Manufacturing Institute

Jan Shumate (BSME '93) has been honored with the Women in Manufacturing STEP Ahead Award, recognizing excellence and leadership by women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Production. Shumate is the Director of Plant Engineering for Eastman Chemical Company, a $9 billion company with 15,000 employees around the world.

A world first has been invented at Purdue University, and it’s a toy that will soon be hitting the market. Purdue professor and inventor of Ziro, Karthik Ramani, created a hand-controlled robot that is a toy meant for children to help stimulate the minds of the up and coming generation.

Microbots individually controlled using 'mini force fields'

Professor David Cappelleri and colleagues are using a technology likened to "mini force fields" to independently control individual microrobots operating within groups, an advance aimed at using the tiny machines in areas including manufacturing and medicine.
