AutoCPR brings automated CPR to cardiac arrest patients

Outside of hospitals, 90% of cardiac arrest patients around the world die -- many times because CPR can't be performed long enough for help to arrive. Solution: AutoCPR, a machine with easily-sourced materials that can perform the life-saving procedure for hours. This senior project from the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering (which includes Purdue ME grad student Michael Dziekan) won the 2017 Engineering World Health Design Competition.

Experiment Brings Pool Boiling into the Classroom

Heat transfer isn't the easiest concept to teach -- many of the dynamics can't be shown in a classroom setting. That's the goal of this new apparatus, designed by Issam Mudawar (Betty Ruth and Milton B. Hollander Family Professor of Mechanical Engineering). With a live camera projected in a classroom, students can physically see the concepts of pool boiling, nucleate boiling, critical heat flux, and the Leidenfrost effect.

Purdue Orbital is building a Rockoon: a rocket launched from a balloon! By lifting the rocket launch platform above the atmosphere, they can overcome 98% of air resistance, and use the rocket's power more efficiently. They hope to be the first University to send an object into Earth orbit!
