Several Purdue ME students and graduates were recognized at Noise-Con, the annual conference of the Institute of Noise Control Engineering, in Providence, Rhode Island.

Tongyang Shi, who is working toward his Ph.D. under the supervision of professor J. Stuart Bolton, received a student paper award for his paper, “The use of wideband acoustical holography for noise source visualization."

Jiawei Liu, also a Ph.D. student under Professor Bolton, won for his paper, “Noise source identification based on an inverse radiation mode procedure.”

Daniel Carr, working for his Ph.D. with professor Patricia Davies, won the “Classic Papers in Noise Control” competition.

All of the students perform their research at the Acoustic, Noise, and Vibration Lab at the Ray W. Herrick Laboratories.  They were each awarded $1000 at the conference.

Also at the conference, Purdue alumni Rajendra Singh (Ph.D. '75), received the Institute of Noise Control Engineering’s highest honor, the Distinguished Noise Control Engineer award.  Raj is currently Professor Emeritus in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at The Ohio State University.
