ME alumnus Anthony Harris to receive honorary doctorate

ME Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Anthony Harris will receive one of only two 2013 Purdue Honorary Doctorates in Engineering.  The Honorary Doctorate, the highest honor Purdue bestows, is awarded to engineering alumni or alumnae, to former Purdue engineering faculty, or to individuals with a close association or involvement with Purdue Engineering.  The degree recognizes outstanding accomplishments for technical, administrative and managerial excellence in large-scale engineering operations, and/or for distinguished public service. This degree is reserved for individuals with achievements that are judged to be truly exceptional and of lasting value.

The Honorary Doctorate will be bestowed on Mr. Harris as part of the Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 11, 2013.  He is one of the six Purdue students in 1976 who were responsible for initiating, and later nurturing the organization NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers).  He served as its President and is now Chair of National Board of this 30,000 members strong organization.
