Issam Mudawar receives named professorship
Dr. Issam Mudawar has been named the Betty Ruth and Milton B. Hollander Family Professor of Mechanical Engineering.
Issam Mudawar has been conducting groundbreaking research at Purdue for more than 30 years, specifically in heat transfer and thermal management for electronics, avionics, energy, and materials. He founded the Boiling and Two-Phase Flow Laboratory, now partnering with NASA on boiling-and-condensing systems to manage temperatures on future spacecraft. He also worked with Rolls-Royce to investigate high-Mach propulsion and hydrogen storage. He has supervised more than 65 Ph.D. students, published more than 200 journal articles, and spoken at numerous conferences. Thomson Reuters cited him as one of the “World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds” in 2015.
The Betty Ruth and Milton B. Hollander Family Professorship in Mechanical Engineering honors Betty Ruth Hollander, who founded OMEGA Engineering in 1962 (now a $180 million global company); and Milton B. Hollander (BSME ‘51), who served as VP for Gulf+Western and holds more than 200 patents.
