Faculty Recognitions

Our Purdue ME faculty are active in research, in teaching, and in collaboration -- and they're getting noticed for their success. Here are some recent faculty honors:
  • Chuck Krousgrill has been named a 150th Anniversary Professor, to celebrate Purdue's upcoming sesquicentennial. Only ten faculty on the entire campus have received this recognition of excellence.
  • Suresh Garimella has been elected a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. He has also been appointed to the board of BioCrossroads, Indiana's public-private partnership to advance the life sciences.
  • Carlo Scalo has been awarded $360,000 from the Army Research Office Young Investigator Program, for his work on turbulence modeling.
  • Eckhard Groll received the Institute of Refrigeration J&E Hall Gold Medal, for his work on HVAC&R systems.
  • Partha Mukherjee entered into a cooperative research agreement with the Naval Surface Warfare Center to improve the safety and performance of lithium-ion batteries.
  • Jay Gore was honored by the Chief Minister of the State of Maharashtra for his work in establishing World Peace University in Pune, India.
  • Jim Jones has received the Dean A.A. Potter Award from the College of Engineering, honoring outstanding undergraduate teaching. He has also received the Mechanical Engineering equivalent, the Harry L. Solberg Award, chosen by the student body.
  • Satish Boregowda has been awarded the Robert W. Fox Outstanding Instructor Award by the School of Mechanical Engineering.
  • Jeff Rhoads has been awarded the Ruth and Joel Spira Award, as a Mechanical Engineering faculty who has inspired students and fostered excellence in product realization.
  • Qingyan (Yan) Chen has been named the James G. Dwyer Professor of Mechanical Engineering.
  • Patricia Davies and Jim Jones recently celebrated 30 years with Purdue University.
  • We welcome new faculty Luciano Castillo, named as the Kenninger Professor of Renewable Energy and Power Systems; Partha Mukherjee, who studies energy conversion and storage; and Davin Piercey, who will be synthesizing propellants at Zucrow Labs.
