Neera Jain and George Chiu recognized by ASME
Neera Jain and George Chiu have each been recognized by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) at the 2024 Modeling, Estimation, and Control Conference in Chicago.
George Chiu, professor of mechanical engineering, received the Michael J. Rabins Leadership Award. This award is given every other year by the Dynamic Systems and Control Division (DSCD) of ASME to a member who has demonstrated sustained outstanding leadership contributions to the DSCD, to ASME, and to related fields of interest.
Chiu’s research centers around mechatronics and dynamic systems and control with applications to digital printing and imaging systems, digital fabrications and functional printing, human motor control, motion and vibration perception and control, and robotics. He also serves as the Assistant Dean for Global Engineering Programs at Purdue.
Neera Jain, associate professor of mechanical engineering, received the Rudolf Kalman Best Paper Award. This award is given annually by the DSCD to the authors of the best paper published in the ASME Journal of Dynamic Systems Measurement and Control during the preceding year. Jain’s paper was entitled “Design and Validation of a State-Dependent Riccati Equation Filter for State of Charge Estimation in a Latent Thermal Storage Device,” by Michael Shanks, Uduak Inyang-Udoh, and Neera Jain.
Jain’s research has two main thrusts: human-automation interaction; and dynamic modeling, design, and control for improved thermal energy management.
