Meet our new faculty

Three new faculty have joined the School of Mechanical Engineering in August 2022, bringing our total to 94 tenure-track faculty. Let's meet these three new faculty!

Yan Gu

Yan Gu is a new associate professor of mechanical engineering at Purdue. She finished her BSME at Zheijang University in China, and attained her Ph.D. at Purdue, studying under Bin Yao and C. S. George Lee. Her lab, the Terrain Robotics Advanced Control and Experimentation (TRACE) Lab, focuses on modeling, state estimation, planning, and control of legged robot locomotion. Her research goal is to achieve versatile, stable, agile, and energy-efficient robot locomotion in unknown complex environments; as well as applying robotics knowledge and skills to revealing the fundamental principles of human and animal locomotion biomechanics as well as investigating robot-assisted human walking.

Kevin Kircher

Kevin Kircher is a new assistant professor of mechanical engineering at Purdue. His PhD is from Cornell, and he did research at Cal Berkeley and MIT before coming to Purdue. He works on smart buildings, with particular focus on heating/cooling systems and their interaction with the electricity grid. His research involves a mix of mathematical analysis, computer simulation and field experiments, using methods from control theory, optimization and machine learning.

Tiwei Wei

Tiwei Wei is a new assistant professor of mechanical engineering at Purdue. After finishing an MS in China, he attained his Ph.D from KU Leuven in Belgium, followed by postdoc work at Stanford. In his All-in-one for Semiconductor Packaging, Heat transfer, and Assembly (ALPHA) Lab, his research interests include impingement jet cooling and embedded microchannel cooling for heterogeneous 3D integration. He serves on the session chair and technical program committee of several electronic packaging conferences, including IEEE ESTC, REPP, 3DIC and EPTC.
