Course Description

This course provides an exploration of product management principles and the role of a product manager. Students will learn the basic skills and techniques to manage and launch technical products.

The course will cover fundamental topics that include

  • Product lifecycle and lifecycle management
  • Market, customer, and opportunity analysis
  • Creating product roadmaps and guiding new product development
  • Product launch and commercialization
  • Navigating cross-functional teams

Course structure

The class utilizes lecture modality and is organized around three general topics: Product Life Cycle Management, Market Analysis, and New Product Development. There will be overlap across the topics.

  • Product Management for Dummies by Brian Lawley and Pamela Schure 2017, and
  • The Product Manager's Handbook 4/E 4th Edition by GORCHELS 2011

Assessment:

Grading: Participation (5%), HW (25%), Quizzes (10%), Exam 1 (30%), Exam 2 (30%).
