Nancy Uridil

Nancy E. Uridil

Independent Director, FHLB Cincinnati
BS CE 1974

For her exceptional business acumen innovating new products and building iconic brands with Procter & Gamble, Mary Kay, Estée Lauder, and Moen.

Nancy Uridil went into engineering because her father told her that engineering would “open doors” and indeed it did.  Throughout her career, Nancy leveraged her engineering degree and experience opening doors becoming a multi-sector global executive.

The common theme of her career is one of being a “builder.” She started by building technologies and organizations, then products, global supply chains and brands, and finally, global businesses. For 40 years — 18 of which were spent as a senior vice president on executive teams — Uridil built global supply chains, innovative organizations, iconic brands, and multiple new products.

Born in Lafayette, Uridil followed in the footsteps of her father when she earned her Purdue degree. Active in the Society for Women Engineers (SWE), the organization assisted her in obtaining a summer internship at Procter & Gamble, which turned into a 20-year career that spanned manufacturing, marketing, and supply chain management. From there, she spent 10 years in the cosmetics business first with Mary Kay in Dallas and then with the Estee Lauder Cos. in New York.  At Mary Kay she delivered sustainable improvements in profit, customer service, manufacturing productivity and delivery of new products. She transformed the operations team with process training and leadership development. At Estee Lauder Companies, Inc., she led a  quality performance turnaround, significantly improved inventories  and the implementation of the largest and most successful IT project in company history.

As senior vice president of Global Operations at Moen, Uridil had the privilege of leading more than 2,500 people and a $880 million budget responsible for sourcing, manufacturing, distribution, logistics, engineering, quality, US consumer call centers and product development for finishes. Her organization delivered breakthrough and consistent financial performance through a myriad of market conditions. She created and delivered multi-functional strategies across global boundaries and 7 business units.  The key areas of delivery of new products, customer service, quality, cost and safety enjoyed consistent year-over-year improvement.

Now retired from full time corporate roles, Uridil has continued her commitment to building the economic vitality of the U.S. through her service on two diverse corporate boards – the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati and Flexsteel Industries, a publicly owned furniture company.

Uridil has maintained close ties with her alma mater, which she shares with husband Frank Bossu (PhD Chemistry ’76). Together, they established the Nancy Uridil and Francis Bossu Professorship in Civil Engineering. For their generosity, the couple was recognized by the Purdue Board of Trustees in 2018 through a resolution of appreciation. Uridil, who was honored with Purdue’s Civil Engineering Alumni Achievement Award in 2016, also lends her expertise as an industry mentor for undergraduate students.

Her advice for current undergraduates is three-fold.

  1. “Create your own vision – remember it’s your life.
  2. Leverage all your resources and relationships to help meet your goals and to continuously learn.
  3. You are extraordinarily talented and gifted - make the biggest, positive impact you can possibly have in your work, your families, and communities. The world is counting on you.”
