George M. Scalise

For his outstanding contributions as an engineer, innovator, administrator, and ambassador for the semiconductor industry, the Schools of Engineering are proud to present the Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Award to George M. Scalise.

Mr. Scalise graduated with a bachelor s degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue in 1956. Today, he is president of the Semiconductor Industry Association, a trade organization of more than 80 member companies that account for 90 percent of U.S. semiconductor production.

From his more than 30-year career in the semiconductor and related industries, Mr. Scalise has emerged as an effective spokesman for the U.S. semiconductor industry. His expertise has been invaluable has he helped develop and implement the landmark U.S.-Japan semiconductor trade agreement. Mr. Scalise continues to be a strong advocate for the U.S. semiconductor industry as he meets with Congress, government agencies, and trade organizations. He is a member of President Bush s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, and he has also served on Purdue s Engineering Visiting Committee since 1999.
