G.R.I.T.+: Global, Research, Industry, Teamwork and More
Receiving a degree from Purdue University is about more than the classes our students take and the grades they earn for them. Purdue Engineering echoes President Mitch Daniels’ proclamation that Boilermakers’ emotional strength, or “grit,” will be essential for success during students’ time at Purdue and in the future as they begin their careers. Grit comes from within and is built from a drive to succeed, the ability to overcome obstacles, and the perseverance required to make it to graduation day. A Purdue Engineering degree speaks volumes about the skills acquired and experiences gained that go beyond the lecture hall. G.R.I.T.+ programs enrich, challenge, and deepen the heart and mind.
Boilermakers are History Makers
Purdue Engineering is home to many engineering education landmarks, including the nation's first Women in Engineering Program (1969), the founding site of the National Society of Black Engineers (1975), Engineering Projects in Community Service (1995), and the nation’s first Department of Engineering Education (2004). Purdue has been producing engineering graduates for almost 120 years on a campus that was the college home to both the first and the most recent humans to walk on the Moon. While Purdue Engineering has produced world-renowned alumni for decades, we believe the history-makers of the future are now starting their educational journeys here. The first person to walk on Mars may now be on her way to a lab in the Neil Armstrong Hall of Engineering!
