Walter F. Fee received his BSEE degree from Purdue University in 1946 and joined Commonwealth Edison Company later that same year. Since then he has held a variety of positions culminating in the position of executive vice president for engineering and operations at Northeast Utilities.

In 1954, Fee worked with the Hartford Electric Light Company as a system operating and maintenance engineer and became chief electrical engineer there in 1962. Four years later he became director of Technical Services for Northeast Utilities Service Company (NUSCO). Fee became vice president of system engineering and construction of NUSCO in 1974. A year later the real estate functions for Northeast Utilities member companies were consolidated and placed under his direction. He also assumed the responsibilities for reliability engineering. In 1978, Fee was promoted to executive vice president of engineering and operations of Northeast Utilities. He also served as executive vice president of Northeast's principal subsidiaries including the Connecticut Light and Power Company, Holyoke Water Power Company, Western Massachusetts Electric Company, Northwest Nuclear Energy Company, and Northeast Utilities Service Company.

Fee is active in a number of professional organizations. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and was a director of that organization. In 1984, he received an IEEE Centennial Medal Award. He is past president of the Power Engineering Society and was named a Purdue Distinguished Engineering Alumnus in 1979.
