Education in the field of electrical and computer engineering provides students with the essential tools for riding a curve of exponential change, which is taking place in the use and development of new technologies.
 
Jai Gupta is the recently retired president of L-3 Communications Government Services Group. Prior to heading up this group, he was president of Government Services, Inc. (GSI), which he founded in 1979 and built into one of North America’s most successful small businesses by 2001, when it was acquired by L-3 Communications.

At GSI Dr. Gupta assembled a unique team of systems engineers, leading a powerful combination of talent to remarkable success. From program-management support, aircraft modifications, training and simulation systems, and information systems to the design, development, and launch of suborbital and orbital rockets, the companies under his leadership continually demonstrated innovative solutions with excellent results.

All of Dr. Gupta’s companies combined state-of-the-art technology with professional services. This included wide-area intrusion-detection systems and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance systems to support the U.S. intelligence community and Special Operations Forces. He counts among his career highlights the development of small launch vehicles and payload recovery systems, which benefited both the communications and pharmaceutical industries.

Dr. Gupta earned his PhD in electrical engineering from Purdue; his master’s degree from Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario; and his bachelor’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), New Delhi, India. He is a distinguished alumnus of IIT New Delhi and an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He previously served as chairman of the International Society of Productivity Enhancement.
