Mr. Dennis C. Cooke

The field of electrical and computer engineering is advancing rapidly, and the importance of education in this fast-paced field cannot be overemphasized. Technology coming from this field is key to solving the many problems we have in the world today.
A Fort Wayne, Indiana, native, Dennis Cooke graduated from Purdue with both BSEE (1986) and MSEE (1988) degrees. He received his MBA from the University of Chicago (1995). Through the years he has served in a variety of roles with increasing responsibility and leadership demands.
In 1988 Mr. Cooke joined Proxim Inc. in Santa Clara, California, as a software engineer. The following year he joined GE Medical Systems (GEMS) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as the X-ray Manufacturing Cycle Time project manager. He became the Americas Customer Satisfaction manager in 1992, and in 1993 was promoted to global product manager, Classical R&F in X-ray. In 1996 he transitioned to manager, X-ray Platform Planning, responsible for the Apollo Flat Panel Detector. A cross-functional move was next when GEMS moved him to manager, Global Order-to-Remittance & Logistics in 1998.
Mr. Cooke was appointed to general manager, Global Magnetic Resonance (MR) Business in June 1999. During his time in MR, he applied his inspirational leadership, clinical knowledge, customer insight, and break-through product focus to propel the business to significant growth.
In August 2003 he became vice president and corporate officer of the General Electric Company. This year he was promoted to president, Homeland Protection. In this capacity he looks forward to creating solutions to the security-space problems our government and businesses face. He and his wife of 17 years, Beth (another Purdue graduate), have two daughters, Jennifer (age 10) and Ashley (8).
