Jonathan J. WilkerProfessor of Chemistry and Materials Engineering
Adhesives and cements of mussels, barnacles, starfish, limpets, kelp, and oysters are familiar to anyone who has ever explored a tide pool. These materials may provide the basis for developing wet setting surgical glues, bone cements, dental adhesives, rustproof coatings, and marine or biomedical antifouling coatings. This talk will focus on Jonathan Wilker’s work to characterize these biological materials, design synthetic mimics, and develop such applications.
