Thomas M. TalavageAssociate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Head trauma and concussion in football players has recently received considerable attention, because post-mortem evidence suggests that accrual of brain damage may occur with repeated blows to the head, even when single blows fail to produce clinical symptoms. There is an urgent need for improved detection and characterization of head trauma to reduce future injury risk and promote development of new therapies. Tom Talavage will talk about the Purdue Neurotrauma Consortium which is characterizing the relation between blows to the head and subsequent impairment, with a goal of developing novel interventions to enhance the safety of youth sports participation.
