Catalog Description
This introductory course for First-Year Engineering students will expose them to the world of undergraduate research. We'll discuss types of research, hear from programs recruiting undergrads on campus, prepare application materials, and engage directly with faculty and student researchers. By the end of this course, students will be well-equipped to pursue research opportunities at Purdue and beyond.
ENGR 396: Undergraduate Experiential Training - Research

Catalog Description
ENGR 396 offers two sections: 39603 for semiconductor experiences and 39602 for academic research-based experiences. This course allows students conducting research for pay or other compensation to reflect their research experience on their transcript.
Eligibility
- Open to students conducting research for pay or other compensation.
- Co-op and internship experiences in research are included.
- Not applicable for students already earning credit for research.
ENGR 596: Advanced Undergraduate Research

Catalog Description
ENGR 596 is designed for upper-level undergraduate students within a year and a half of graduation. This course helps students prepare for careers in industry or graduate school, including applications for the NSF-GRFP.
Eligibility
- Open to students within a year and a half of graduation.
- Enrollment is open until October 22, 2024, with an active research agreement with a faculty member.
- Requires approximately 10 hours of research per week.
