Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)

The SURF 2021 program will begin accepting applications on December 15, 2020.

SURF matches undergraduates with a faculty member and graduate student mentor who introduce them to the research tools used on the cutting edges of science, engineering, and technology. (Open to Purdue students and undergraduate students enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities.)

SURF students participate in research activities over 10-weeks during a 11-week program in the summer.

  • Application Window: December 15, 2020 - February 15, 2021
  • Program Dates: May 24 – August 2, 2021
  • SURF Symposium: July 29, 2021

*Response to COVID-19:

We do not anticipate hosting external students on campus due to the COVID restrictions. External students will engage in remote research. Depending on the nature of research and the capacity of the research lab, Purdue students may engage in on-campus research activities under the imposed COVID guidelines.  All professional development programming aspects of SURF will be done remotely.
