Some 60 years after the first computer, many argue simulation is good mainly for building intuition, and some go so far as to say it’s good only for making pretty pictures. Its utility is even more questionable in emerging areas such as micro- and nanotechnology.

What would it take to make simulations predictive in these areas? What breakthroughs are necessary before we can believe what we are simulating?
