AAE’s Sangid, PPI’s Hartman, and team receive Manufacturing Leadership award
Purdue Engineering and Polytechnic Institute members led MxD's project in designing, developing, and implementing the Model-Based Feature Information Network (MFIN), which is the Manufacturing USA Institute that provided funding. The MxD team included members from Lockheed Martin, Rolls-Royce, Purdue, Capvidia, MSC Software, Siemens, and Materials Data Management. Their MFIN software creates a comprehensive framework for storing, indexing, updating, searching and retrieving relevant information across a product’s lifecycle that is necessary to facilitate next-generation digital engineering strategies like the digital twin, digital thread, and Industry 4.0.
The MxD project had industrial leads of Lockheed Martin and Rolls-Royce, while the MFIN development was spearheaded by Purdue by Michael Sangid, the Elmer F. Bruhn Associate Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics and professor of Materials Engineering, and the Purdue Polytechnic Institute's (PPI) Nathan Hartman, professor in the Department of Computer Graphics and Director of the Purdue University Digital Enterprise Center (DEC). Other team members included Professor Rosemary Astheimer (Department of Computer Graphics and Technology); and graduate students Saikiran Gopalakrishnan (School of Aeronautics and Astronautics) and Kevin Del Re (Department of Computer Graphics and Technology).
The Manufacturing Leadership Awards honor manufacturing companies and individual manufacturing leaders that are shaping the future of global manufacturing. Winning projects and individual manufacturing leaders have demonstrated achievement in one of a wide range of categories, and are chosen by a panel of expert judges for results that have delivered clear and compelling value, return on investment, and other tangible outcomes. There will be several winners in each category, including one High Achiever’s Award in each category, as well as a 2020 Manufacturer of the Year for both small and large enterprises.
MxD equips U.S. manufacturers with the digital manufacturing tools and expertise they need to begin building every single part better than the last.
