Leah Jamieson, the John A. Edwardson Dean of Engineering, recently was named an Eminent Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Eta Kappa Nu (HKN), the electrical and computer engineering honor society. In bestowing the honor, the organization cited Jamieson's leadership in conceiving and co-founding EPICS, Engineering Programs in Community Service. EPICS deploys teams of undergraduates that design, build, and implement systems to solve engineering-based problems for local community service and educational organizations. Since its 1995 co-founding at Purdue, universities and colleges around the nation have emulated the program and EPICS programs also have been established at the high-school level.

IEEE Eta Kapper Nu established the Eminent Member recognition in 1950 as the society's highest membership classification. It is conferred on a select few whose technical attainment and contributions to society through leadership in the fields of electrical and computer engineering have resulted in significant benefits to humankind. Only 125 individuals have been selected to receive the honor.

Jamieson is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a fellow of the IEEE.
