Nuclear Engineering Courses and Sample Plan of Study

The Nuclear Engineering master’s program will offers a wide range of flexibility in course options. The program is tentatively planned for application and admittance in 2020.

After you admittance into the program at Purdue, an academic advisor will help you look through classes to create a Plan of Study (POS) to best fit your educational needs and career goals. Every POS varies based on student interest, time, and course load.

The non-thesis 30-credit hour curriculum allows one to choose to earn a Master of Nuclear Engineering (MNE) either with 30-credit course work or with 24-credits course work and a project with 6 credit hours.  More information concerning the non-thesis and project options can be found on the School of Nuclear Engineering page.

Non-Thesis Course Curriculum Option:

Total 30 Credits  3-NE required courses:

  • 9 credits (NUCL 50100, NUCL 51000, NUCL 55100)
  • 3-Any 500 and 600 level NE courses: 9 credits
  • 4 -Any 500 and 600 level Engineering, Maths or Science Courses: 12 credits

Non-Thesis project Option:

Total 30 Credits

  • 3-NE required courses: 9 credits (NUCL 50100, NUCL 5100, NUCL 55100)

  • 3-Any 500 and 600 level NE courses: 9 credits

  • 2-Any 500 and 600 level Engineering, Maths or Science Courses: 6 credits  

  • A project on nuclear engineering area with a faculty advisor: 6 credits
