College of Engineering Faculty Excellence Award for Research

Purpose: The purpose of this award is to recognize a faculty member in the College of Engineering for an exceptional recent research contribution that has had significant impact on the discipline and/or society.

Due: February 1, 2024

Eligibility: Any faculty member with at least a half-time appointment in the College of Engineering. Those who have previously received this award in the past five years are not eligible.

The award is for an exceptional research contribution presented/published within the last five years by a Purdue Engineering faculty member that has been significantly recognized by experts in the field. This award recognizes a singular research accomplishment and is not meant to recognize a body of work or aggregate accomplishments of an individual.

  • Description of how the research contribution has impacted the discipline.
  • Evidence of impact such as by publications, patents, citations, significant external recognition, or other criteria judged important by experts in the field.

  • Candidates may be nominated by any faculty or staff member in the College of Engineering.
  • The nomination package should include:
    1. Completed cover sheet.
    2. One letter of nomination (no longer than two pages) that addresses how the nominee has demonstrated excellence in meeting the award criteria.
    3. Three letters of support. One from a Purdue faculty colleague (other than the nominator), and two from external colleagues at peer institutions or representatives of organizations who are the main beneficiaries of the research impact. Letter writers should explicitly address the award criteria.
    4. The above documents should be combined into a single PDF file.
    5. A complete curriculum vitae is to be submitted separately.
  • The awardee will receive a cash award of $2,500, an individual plaque, and will be honored during the annual faculty awards banquet.
  • If multiple nominations for one individual are received, the nominators will be contacted and asked to collaborate in order to submit one nomination package.
  • Self-nominations are not accepted.
