Visionary Voices to feature Cummins Chair and CEO Jennifer Rumsey on Sept. 11

Purdue Engineering alumna leads Fortune 500 company through energy transition, AI revolution

Jennifer Rumsey, Chair and CEO of Cummins Inc.

Purdue University’s Visionary Voices series, hosted by Arvind Raman, the John A. Edwardson Dean of the College of Engineering, will welcome Jennifer Rumsey (BSME ’96), Chair and CEO of Cummins Inc., for a dynamic conversation at 7 p.m. on Sept. 11 at Fowler Hall.

Since joining Cummins, Rumsey has held a variety of roles across engineering, quality and executive leadership. She has supported the company’s growth from $6 billion in revenue in 2000 to more than $34 billion in 2024, helping position Cummins as a global power leader in the transition toward cleaner energy solutions.

The discussion will spotlight Cummins’ Destination Zero strategy, co-authored by Rumsey in 2022, which is focused on helping its customers navigate the energy transition while enabling business growth through a broad portfolio of technology solutions. A key milestone in this strategy is the launch of Cummins’ HELM™ engine platforms, which offer customers the flexibility to choose the fuel type — advanced diesel or alternate fuels such as natural gas or hydrogen — that best suits their business needs and sustainability goals.

The event also explores how Cummins is leveraging artificial intelligence across its operations. From AI-optimized remote diagnostics, over-the-air system updates and predictive analytics, to AI-enabled product design and real-time service analytics, Cummins is applying cutting-edge technologies to transform its engine and powertrain systems. With AI often described as the next industrial revolution, Rumsey will share how the company is preparing for and adapting to this disruptive force.

The conversation will also highlight the importance of partnership, including Purdue’s long-standing collaborations with Cummins

In addition to discussing leadership, innovation and sustainability, Rumsey will offer personal insights and career advice to students aspiring to become innovators, executives — or even CEOs — in a rapidly changing global landscape.
