College of Engineering taking applications for Trailblazers in Engineering programs
Applications are being accepted for the Purdue University College of Engineering’s Trailblazers in Engineering (TBE) through two programs, Black Trailblazers in Engineering and Latinx Trailblazers in Engineering. TBE is open to all individuals, regardless of race, who have demonstrated commitment to increasing the sucess of underrepresented groups in engineering.
The workshop, held July 24-27 on the West Lafayette campus, is aimed at individuals considering faculty careers in engineering academia. Those selected for the program will become fellows, chosen not only for outstanding scholarly achievements but also for potential impact in expanding representation and diversity in engineering.
Fellows will participate in panel discussions, attend a session for early career teaching and participate in a poster session to pitch research and teaching plans. TBE Fellows also will network with program managers at key federal funding agencies, thought leaders, Purdue Engineering heads, and faculty who will present keynote speeches and talks throughout the program. Attendees will have opportunities to receive advice on proposals and obtain feedback from would-be employers.
Since its inception in 2020, the program has produced 94 TBE Fellows — 34 Black, 46 Latinx and two Native Americans. Of those, 17 now hold faculty positions, 27 are postdoctoral fellows at prestigious institutions, 12 are working in industry and 28 are finishing their PhDs.
TBE’s participating national agencies include the National Science Foundation, Office of Naval Research, Air Force Office of Scientific Research and National Institutes of Health.

Fellows will be announced June 30.
