Purdue Engineering graduate program ranked No. 4 in U.S.
On Tuesday (March 30),U.S. News & World Report released its 2022 rankings of Best Graduate Schools, and Purdue Engineering is at its most successful level in 27 years.
Purdue’s College of Engineering moved up three spots – from No. 7 to No. 4 – in this year’s rankings and now sits at its highest position since 1994. It is No. 2 among all U.S. public universities, trailing only the University of California, Berkeley. Purdue shares the fourth spot with the California Institute of Technology and Carnegie Mellon University.
Six of the 12 departmental graduate rankings in engineering improved further, and three maintained the same spot as last year. In particular, Purdue’s Agricultural and Biological Engineering graduate program climbed from last year’s No. 2 rank to the top spot this year.
"While any ranking is a crude approximation, we are proud of the effort and success of Purdue Engineering faculty, staff and students as reflected in the new ranking of graduate and research programs,” said Mung Chiang, John A. Edwardson Dean of the College of Engineering. “This not only continues the momentous upward trajectory of Purdue Engineering, but is also likely the first time any engineering college with almost 17,000 students, more than 14,000 of them residential, attained No. 4. This is the Pinnacle of Excellence at Scale.”
The new rankings add to a growing list of distinctions for Purdue’s College of Engineering. The College also is No. 3 in the 2021 U.S News rankings of online graduate engineering programs. In addition, the College has the largest top 10 undergraduate engineering program in the U.S., has more than 10 federally funded centers with at least $10 million each in research funding, and is the first non-medical public college to raise more than $1 billion in philanthropic gifts in a campaign.
