Former ME Head Bajaj outlines sabbatical, to receive ASME award

Anil K. Bajaj, who left his position as the William E. and Florence Perry Head and Alpha P. Jamison Professor of the School of Mechanical Engineering, at the end of the 2018-19 academic year, reports that he will spend the coming months on sabbatical.

He will visit the Indian Institute of Technology Madras at Chennai, the No. 1-ranked Engineering/Technology institution in India and designated as an Institute of Excellence by the government of India, in September through October 2019 and January through May 2020.

His appointment is visiting professor as well as the Arcot Ramachandran Chair.

Interestingly, said Bajaj, Ramachandran earned his BSME in 1947 and PhD in 1949 from Purdue in the field of heat transfer. He is well known globally as a top scientist, engineer, and public science policy developer. Ramachandran received an honorary doctorate from Purdue in 1982.

Additionally, Bajaj will be awarded the 2019 Thomas K. Caughey Dynamics Award by the Applied Mechanics Division (AMD) of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He will accept the award Nov. 12  in Salt Lake City at the ASME Annual Meeting of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
