Two ChE faculty honored for excellence in teaching

Two Davidson School of Chemical Engineering faculty were recently honored for their excellence in teaching graduate and undergraduate students.

Dr. Rajamani Gounder and Dr. Jeffrey Siirola were recognized prior to the graduate seminar on December 5, with both faculty receiving certificates from Professor David Corti, Executive Officer of Chemical Engineering, on behalf of the School.

Dr. Rajamani Gounder received the inaugural Phillip C. Wankat Graduate Teaching Award in Chemical Engineering

Dr. Rajamani Gounder, the Larry and Virginia Faith Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering, received the inaugural Phillip C. Wankat Graduate Teaching Award in Chemical Engineering. Dr. Gounder was chosen by chemical engineering graduate students who have taken graduate-level courses, including Professional Master’s Program enrollees.

The Wankat Award was established in 2016 by Chemical Engineering faculty to honor the outstanding teaching contributions by Phillip C. Wankat, the Lovell Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Chemical Engineering. Dr. Wankat was a Purdue Chemical Engineering faculty for 47 years, and also served as Director of Undergraduate Degree Programs in Engineering Education.

Jeffrey Siirola received the 2017 Shreve Award for Outstanding Teaching in Chemical Engineering

Dr. Jeffrey Siirola, Professor of Engineering Practice, received the 2017 Shreve Award for Outstanding Teaching in Chemical Engineering. Dr. Siirola was selected by chemical engineering seniors.

The Shreve Award was established in 1960 by R. Norris Shreve, Professor of Chemical Engineering, and Eleanor B. Shreve to recognize outstanding teaching by a faculty member. Dr. Shreve was a distinguished member of the School’s faculty from 1930 through 1955, and served as Head from 1947 to 1951.
