BME PhD candidates Bungart, Soepriatna awarded fellowships

Weldon School PhD candidates Brittani Bungart and Arvin Soepriatna have been named recipients of prestigious fellowships for 2018-2019 by Purdue’s College of Engineering.

Bungart received the Bilsland Dissertation Fellowship. Her dissertation is entitled “Targeted Prostate Cancer Biopsy by Dual Light Delivery Photoacoustic Tomography and Vascular Topology Analysis.” She is co-advised by Professor Ji-Xin Cheng and Professor Young Kim.

Soepriatna received the Hugh W. and Edna M. Donnan Fellowship. His dissertation is entitled “Characterizing 3D Myocardial Strain in Infarct Expansion During Cardiac Remodeling.” He is advised by Professor Craig Goergen.

Each of these dissertation fellowships are highly competitive and provide funding for a PhD student’s final year of doctoral degree completion. The recipients were chosen based on academic abilities and scholarly achievements (including publications, conference presentations, GPA, etc.), good citizenship and service to the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering and to the College of Engineering, and career promise (leadership, innovation, readiness and potential to make an impact).
