CoE student athletes among B1G honorees

Ten intercollegiate student athletes in the College of Engineering were among 1,016 from all 14 Big Ten institutions to receive the 2016-17 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award for excellent academic performance. Qualifying students earned at least a 3.7 GPA during the 2016-17 academic year. A total of 54 Purdue athletes received the award.

Lundstrom to receive IEEE Leon K. Kirchmayer Graduate Teaching Award

Mark Lundstrom, the Don and Carol Scifres Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been selected to receive the 2018 IEEE Leon K. Kirchmayer Graduate Teaching Award. The presentation is scheduled for the IEEE Electron Devices Meeting, Dec. 4-6, 2017 in San Francisco.

Prof. Dan DeLaurentis named director of Institute for Global Security and Defense Innovation

Discovery Park has announced that effective this month, Dan DeLaurentis, professor in the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics and director of the Center for Integrated Systems in Aerospace, will serve as the inaugural director for the Institute for Global Security and Defense Innovation (i-GSDI). DeLaurentis has served as the interim director of the institute since its launch in December.

A new technique that uses the artificial intelligence methods of machine learning and deep learning is able to create 3-D shapes from 2-D images, such as photographs, and is even able to create new, never-before-seen shapes.

Purdue ag technology researchers part of winning hackathon team

Two researchers in Purdue University’s Open Ag Technologies and Systems (OATS) Group were part of the five-member winning team at the Nutreco Agrivision Hackathon, an international competition to promote the potential of data and technology innovation in livestock farming.
