Slamovich named interim head of MSE

Elliot Slamovich, professor of materials engineering, has accepted the position as interim head for the School of Materials Engineering, effective Aug. 15. Leah Jamieson, the John A. Edwardson Dean of Engineering announced the appointment this morning (6/1/2011). Slamovich will serve as interim after current head, Keith Bowman, leaves for a new position as chair of the Department of Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering in the Armour College of Engineering ACE, at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
During the coming weeks, a search committee will be formed to find the next head of MSE.
Slamovich directs research on low temperature hydrothermal processing of ceramic powders and thin films, and thin film processing of solid oxide fuel cells. He has over 70 archival publications and has advised or co-advised 13 Ph.D. and seven M.S. students. He received a NSF-CAREER award in 1996, has received the MSE "Best Undergraduate Teacher" award five times, and became a Fellow of the Purdue University Teaching Academy in 2002. Professor Slamovich joined the Purdue faculty in 1994.
