In a matter of months, Purdue AI Racing took giant leaps to reach two major milestones: competing in "Tier 2" during the Indy Autonomous Challenge at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and recording a personal speed record of 159 mph! After a successful outing in the "Tier 1" time-trial competition at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in September, the team of Purdue Engineers worked tirelessly to develop perception capabilities for the January race in Las Vegas, allowing them to successfully overtake another racecar as part of the "Tier 2" two-car passing competition. The crew of PhD students is taking their research to the racetrack, accelerating their knowledge of AI, robotics and motorsports in a thrilling, real-world application. It’s part of the College of Engineering's mission to produce the best-prepared and most diverse engineering talent in the world. But it doesn't stop there. Whether it’s collaborating with Gatik, the team's first corporate sponsor, partnering with the Indiana Economic Development Corp. or competing on a Dallara-built chassis, Purdue AI Racing is driving innovation in the state and nation. --- This year we're celebrating our consequential impact on the world – 150 Years of Purdue Engineering! On September 13-14, the college launched the celebration with events including thought-provoking lectures by distinguished speakers, award ceremonies celebrating community excellence and student competitions that serve as a space for emerging talent to showcase their skills and innovation. Other milestone moments will include ribbon cuttings, anniversary celebrations and alumni events that provide a platform for graduates to reconnect, reminisce and forge new connections within the industry.
