Happy 120th Anniversary

It is an exciting time for Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ABE) at Purdue! Our newly renovated and expanded building in nearly finished. We will begin moving in on Dec. 4 to get everything ready for our students to start the Spring 2021 semester in the new facilities. For the first time in nearly 20 years, nearly all ABE faculty, staff, and students will be in one space instead of sharing spaces in 10 separate buildings around campus. The ability to collaborate more closely, use state-of-the-art research facilities, and utilize new classrooms and teaching labs will enhance the education, research, and outreach we do.

While 2020 marks the 120th anniversary of Purdue Engineering, 2021 will mark the 100th anniversary of ABE. We are excited to highlight the technologies developed by agricultural and biological engineers over the last century that have changed how we feed a growing global population in a sustainable way. The work we do in ABE and the impacts our students have in the world touch everyone daily, in the food we eat, the medicines we use to heal, and managing the environment that supports clean water and air for all.

While the work of ABE faculty spans many areas, I am able to highlight just two of our outstanding faculty in the College of Engineering podcasts this month: Drs. Dennis Buckmaster and Mohit Verma. Their research, teaching, and outreach show some of the diversity that impacts our faculty, staff, and students. Engineering at the intersection of data science, machines, chemistry, biology, and ecology is what agricultural and biological engineers do. I hope that Drs. Buckmaster and Verma’s work both inform and inspire others to join the efforts to make a more sustainable world.

Sincerely,

Nate Mosier
