The principles of problem definition and solution which we learn in... engineering education, provide us with a powerful set of tools... (which)... afford the engineer the opportunity and the responsibility to assume a leadership role across a broad spectrum of society.

Steven J. Balser, a 1969 bachelor's degree graduate of Purdue University, is the president of Power Technologies, Inc. After completing his bachelor's degree, he worked for the American Electric Power Service Corporation for a year, and then he returned to Purdue. He completed his master's degree in 1972 and remained to complete his doctoral work under a National Science Foundation Fellowship.
