Temitope Ezekiel Idowu received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (CE) in 2021 from Federal University of Technology, Nigeria, and his master’s degree in CE in 2017 from Pan African University, Kenya. He expects to earn his PhD in CE in December 2024 from the University of Delaware (UD), where he is probing the behavior of munitions disposed of in marine environments on U.S. coastlines and their reappearance due to extreme weather events using physical models. Overall, his research has yielded 20+ high-impact scientific publications, 240+ citations, 11 first-author conference presentations, and 36 peer reviews. Long-term research objectives include advancing machine learning techniques in coastal environmental assessments and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. He was a presenter at the Spring 2023 Spark Symposium, and he serves as co-founder and inaugural president of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Graduate Student Association in UD. To promote equal representation in STEM, he is a mentor for EmPOWER (Empathetic Peers Offering Wisdom, Encouragement, and Resources) and has volunteered at the STEAM Day for high school students. After securing a faculty position, Idowu will provide practical experience in Geographic Information Systems and remote sensing tools and will assign semester-long projects for students to study real-world environmental issues, hone research skills, and apply classroom knowledge.
