George William Kajjumba George William Kajjumba received his BSc in 2012 from Engineering Makerere University and his MBA in 2015 from Makerere University (MUK), both in Uganda. He received his MSc in environmental engineering from Istanbul University, Turkey, in 2018, and is now a PhD candidate in civil and environmental engineering at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). He currently holds posts as a program reviewer for Umm Al Qura University and as a teaching assistant at UNLV. He is co-founder and CFO for UZURI Health & Beauty, Uganda, a startup that provides preventive and primary care at beauty centers. He was selected for the 70th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting and is a member of the American Water Works Association, American Society for Mass Spectrometry, and Engineers Without Borders, among others. He has worked to establish the mechanism through which lanthanides interact and remove contaminants from wastewater and to establish the toxicity limit of lanthanides in effluent water. In the future, he hopes to understand the impact of reclaimed water and nutrients on food crops and develop inexpensive, efficient bioassays that can determine the effluent water quality before it is recycled back into a community. As an educator, he plans to visit underprivileged students in local high schools and middle schools to inspire future researchers.
