Steven F. Son
Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering
Dr. Steven F. Son received his Ph. D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was a J. R. Oppenheimer Fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory from 1993 to 1996. For the past ten years he served as a Technical Staff Member and Project Leader at Los Alamos. He was recently a visiting professor at The Pennsylvania State University on a one-year sabbatical, teaching a special topics course on the combustion of energetic materials, and performing combustion research. His research interests are in experimental and theoretical studies of combustion of energetic materials (propellants, explosives, and pyrotechnics), microscale combustion, nanoscale energetic composites, combustion synthesis, and coal combustion. He has given numerous invited lectures at several research institutions, as well as at meetings of the Material Research Society (MRS), American Physical Society (APS), International Pyrotechnics Seminar, and Gordon Research Conferences. Steve is currently an Associate Editor of the AIAA's Journal of Propulsion and Power.
