Muna Awajan — Jordan
Electrical Engineering, Ph.D.
Graduation: December 2025
I am doing research in the field and optics. Currently, I am working on radio frequency device design development and implementations, specifically adaptive impedance tuners networks, which are contributors to advances in wireless technologies.
Q
What do you hope to do after graduation?
A
I have been thinking about this recently; a position that will allow me to exercise the skills I harvested, practice applied research, and contribute to developing technologies. I will keep in mind what one of my professors said to me, the opportunities and positions you create for yourself are the ones best fitted.
Q
What was the most valuable advice you received before or during graduate school?
A
The best advice I received would be not to waste my time thinking about the destination (once it is set) because what is enjoyable and enriching is the journey itself, not the destination.
Q
Why did you choose Purdue Engineering for your graduate studies?
A
I chose Purdue for many reasons; of course, a prestigious school that has a well-rounded program that will enrich my knowledge and skill set. But it also meets my desire to be in a friendly yet competitive environment with amazing people from around the globe who keeps pushing each other forward to be the best.
Q
If you could describe Purdue Engineering Graduate Programs in 3 words, which would you choose?
A
challenging, intriguing and demanding
Q
What do you do for fun at Purdue or nearby?
A
I usually go to the Corec and play tennis table or basketball with friends.
Q
Favorite food and why:
A
Definitely Mansaf. It's a traditional Jordanian dish; it is a unique dish we take pride in, tastes delicious, and reminds me of good times around family and loved ones.
Q
Favorite vacation spot and why:
A
In America, The Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee. Lovely nature, clean air, stunning waterfalls, and great hiking trails are what I need when I am on vacation and want to reset. If I want to have an adventure, a stargazing experience, and great food, I would say Petra and Wadi Rum in southern Jordan.
