Lexy Arinze, a first-generation graduate student from Nigeria, earned his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Ibadan before participating in a student abroad program in Spain. Upon returning to Nigeria, he worked as a graduate Engineer at Arup for 1.5 years. He recently obtained his master's degree in Civil Engineering at Purdue University and currently is pursuing his Ph.D. in Engineering Education.

What do you hope to do after graduation?
A
After graduation, I intend to pursue a career in industry and return to academia later in the future.

What was the most valuable advice you received before or during graduate school?
A
When imposter syndrome sets in, remember you have earned the right to be here, so you should not feel like you do not belong. You will fail sometimes and succeed at other times, learn from your mistakes and grow with each win.

Why did you choose Purdue Engineering for your graduate studies?
A
Purdue Engineering has been quite supportive throughout my graduate school journey. From getting my offer to getting to campus and starting my study, I have received so much support and love. Besides the support, I chose Purdue Engineering because the programs are highly ranked, the faculty genuinely care and the graduate community is inclusive.

A
The people I have encountered here are so kind and willing to help.

What do you do for fun at Purdue or nearby?
A
I love hitting the gym, CoRec is a great place. Basketball, Coffee at Greyhouse coffee, bowling at PMU and Go-Karting at Malibu Jack.

Favorite food and why:
A
My favorite food would be Pounded yam and egusi soup from Nigeria. It is one of the most delicious things on the planet, take my word for it.

Favorite vacation spot and why:
A
The city of love. Paris, France. So much to explore. Plus, French is such a beautiful language.
