Purdue Engineering hits record high for online master's programs: No. 1 in all 5 disciplinary rankings

In its best-ever showing, Purdue's College of Engineering earned the No. 1 spot in all five disciplines ranked in U.S. News & World Report's Best Online Engineering Master's Programs.

Purdue Engineering’s online master’s program overall ranks No. 2 (the position it held in a tie in 2025 and alone in 2023), and is No. 4 among Best for Veterans (up one spot from last year).

In its best-ever showing, Purdue University’s College of Engineering earned the No. 1 spot in all five disciplines ranked in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Online Engineering Master’s Programs.

U.S. News rankings released today (Jan. 27, 2026) give top billing to these Purdue Engineering disciplines, with each representing an improvement or an extended run:

  • MS Civil Engineering: No. 1 (first time on top – up one place from 2025)
  • MS Electrical Engineering: No. 1 (second consecutive year)
  • MS Industrial Engineering: No. 1 (seventh straight year – since disciplinary rankings began)
  • MS Mechanical Engineering: No. 1 (seventh year in a row –since disciplinary rankings began)
  • MS Engineering Management: No. 1 (fifth consecutive year)

Purdue Engineering’s online master’s program overall ranks No. 2 (the position it held in a tie in 2025 and alone in 2023), and is No. 4 among Best for Veterans (up one spot from last year). U.S. News ranked 111 U.S. institutions this year.

Edwardson Dean of the College of Engineering. “This recognition illustrates Purdue Engineering’s commitment, as the nation’s No. 1 producer of engineering talent, to provide a widening range of flexible online education experiences geared to critical industry needs.”

“The Buckman Engineering Online program continues to deliver excellence at scale,” said Milind Kulkarni, the Michael and Katherine Birck Head and Professor, Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Academic Lead, Robert H. Buckman College of Engineering Online Education Program. “Even as we educate more online students than ever before, the efforts of our faculty and staff have lifted us to our highest rankings since they’ve been tracked. This showing reflects our continued commitment to making the world our campus.”

Raman added: “Reflecting Purdue Engineering’s expanding online opportunities and our No. 1 position in market demand among U.S. engineering colleges, demand continues to rise, with applications up ~10% year over year and spring enrollment above 1,900 students, on track for a record. This growth and our best-ever rankings are a credit to our world-class faculty and students.”
